Official Rules of the Studs On Ice Event 2005

All spectators and participants must sign a waiver at registration.

All drivers must present a valid drivers license at registration.

All drivers under the age of eighteen must have a parent or legal guardian present and must have the parent/guardian sign a consent and waiver.

Any entry may be refused at the discretion of the Chief Steward.

No refunds will be given once the event begins.

Classes of two or less entries may be combined. (Trophies will only be awarded to classes of three or more cars.)

Drivers must drive slowly and carefully when driving onto the lake and when in the pits. There are spectators (including children) moving about. Also, drive slowly within the city limits. We don’t want to wear out our welcome by being a nuisance to the residents.

No alcohol or controlled substance allowed. No individuals suspected to be under the influence will be allowed to race or enter the pit area.

Seat belts and helmets MUST be worn on all runs. Cars must have lap belt, minimum; three point seat belts are preferred. Helmets must be Snell 90 rated or better.

There will be a maximun of 2 registered driver’s per car.

All drivers and crew must attend the drivers’ meeting. Participants will be responsible for all information given out at the meeting.

Know and OBEY the racing flags. The significance of each flag will be explained at the drivers meeting.

NO arguing with the Officials!

Drivers, crew, and spectators must remove any garbage and clean up any chemical spills before leaving the ice. Anyone that leaves any oil or other chemical spills will be disqualified.

***** Street Studded Classes: *Street studded denotes any commercially available US DOT certified, non competition winter tire with US DOT carbide tipped street studs. No rally tires, purpose built ice racing tires, or non carbide tipped studs [like Max Trax's].

No trucks or SUV’s allowed.

All cars will be inspected by the tech inspector. Cars deemed unsafe for any reason may be excluded or otherwise disqualified.

All cars must have secure parts including, but not limited to, exhaust parts, spare tires, and batteries. Hubcaps must be removed.

All loose items must be removed from inside the car for all runs.

Car numbers must be displayed on the vehicle or no credit will be given for a timed run. Cars with two  drivers will be issued a number for each driver. Make sure the correct number assigned for each driver is clearly displayed for each driver.

The Starter controls entry of all cars onto the course.

A 5-second time penalty will be added for each pylon hit during a run.

If another car or a pylon blocks a driver during a timed run, he or she, will get a re-run. Drivers should check with the Chief Steward to determine if a re-run is permitted.

If a driver is stuck on a snow bank, he should make an attempt to get back on course (with caution). However, keeping the track clear and safe for other drivers is of utmost importance. Anyone needing a tow more than twice will forfiet the remaining track time for that run session. All times are official and final. All decisions of the Chief Steward are final.

The Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club wishes everyone a great day on the ice!!!

HOW THE "STUDS ON ICE" EVENT WILL BE RUN:

When you get out on the lake, get your car ready for a cursory safety TECH. inspection. Make sure your car #'s and class designations are on BOTH sides of your car. Bring a contrasting colored tape or white shoe polish with you, and BE PREPARED to change the car # quickly, for EACH DRIVER of that car. IF you have a car with TWO drivers  try to get the car back in line QUICKLY, after each driver completes their run session. PAY attention to what class cars have been gridded in line and listen to the line-up worker's. They will help you get in line when your run group is up next. WE can't go looking for you, if you are not paying attention, or if you disappear temporarily. Each run group will go out for a 10 minute session.

HERE'S the RUN GROUP ORDER that we will send out the groups in:

1st Run Group: 4WD-X, 2WD-X, and M [Menard]

2nd Run Group: 4WD-S  and 2WD-S

3rd Run group: 4WD-R and 2WD-R

4th Run Group: No Passing [all street tire classes]

ALL drivers must attend the DRIVER'S MEETING before the event begins IF you have anyone with you, that is free to lend a hand to the volunteer A.M.E.C. workforce, please let any A.M.E.C. official know, as it will be greatly appreciated! If they desire a warm place to help out, they will be welcome to help out in the scoring vehicle's. Trophies and awards will be handed out on the ice, at the conclusion of the event. Thank you for coming out and enjoying our event with us.

Here are the key changes for the 2005 event:

1. Run groups will run in 10 minute open track lapping sessions, with approx.10 cars in each group.  There will be a single timed solo run at the end of the event, and trophies awarded to the top three in each class.

2. There will be passing allowed in three of the four run groups, but only on the straight[s]. This will be monitored very closely. Point by's are optional and encouraged. Don't worry we plan on plowing the the track wide enough to slide a tractor tralier around again this year, with plenty of room to pass. Passing will only be done in a well educated, non-competitive, and controlled fashion. The car being overtaken must help facilitate a safe pass, and will not "race" the passing car to the braking zone. There will be a set of cones at the end of the straightaway[s] denoting where you must have your pass completed.

3. We will have one run group that will accomodate all of the driver's who don't want any passing in their run group.

4. In the unlikely event that any participant's vehicle touches another particpant's vehicle, one or both of them [determined by the course marshals] will be excluded from the remainder of the event without a refund. This should not be an issue, but has to be mentioned. You are not racing the other cars in your run group.

Class pairings for run groups:

Existing classes will be paired in this way:

Run group #1: Menard, 2WD-X, and 4WD-X, cars run together.

Run group #2:  2WD-S and 4WD-S cars run together.

Run group# 3:  2WD-R  and 4WD-R cars run together.

Run group #4  No passing group [Rubber or Studded cars only - no Menard or X cars]

Notes:

***** Dual driver cars will be able to run in different run groups of similar performance. In other words, a "Group #3" car's with second driver would run with either the "Group #2" cars or in "Group #4" [the "No Passing"] group. Each driver will choose their run group when pre-registering, so we can organize the sizes of each group.

***** Like last year, there will be a maximum of two drivers per car.

*****  Final results will be tallied much more quickly, and trophies will be awarded for all classes.

***** There is an additional benefit of this new format for all  eligible Street Legal cars [under 3,200 lbs.]that are invited to stay over and race with us the next day in our regular wheel to wheel "Street Legal" classes. They will have practiced the course extensively, and will have the advantage of knowing it like the back of their hand for Sunday's races. Keep in mind the SL and SLU [unstudded] classes have a strict "no contact" in effect.
